The Long Beach Water Management District is a local drainage district created pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. § 51-29-1, et seq. and has been granted the additional powers set forth in Miss. Code Ann. § 51-33-1 through § 51-33-9. The District consists of three commissioners appointed by the Chancery Court to six (6) year terms. The District is charged with the responsibility of developing and implementing a plan for watershed protection and flood prevention within the Long Beach Watershed. Such plan primarily focuses on maintaining and improving two drainage canals commonly referred to as Canal No. 1 and Canal No. 2/3. The District is funded through assessments made against the properties receiving benefits from the drainage improvements located within the Long Beach Water Management District.
